High school teacher arrested for alleged sexual assault of student

A high school automotive repair instructor has been charged with felony sexual battery on a minor after a female student disclosed to police that she experienced sexual harassment and assault at his hands for the past year.

Why any student needs to exchange text messages with a teacher, and why parents weren’t aware of it is anyone’s guess, but the victim showed police exchanges on her phone which gave authorities probable cause to arrest Patrick Todd Smith, 51, of Bonneville County, Idaho. The victim alleges she was the recipient of unwanted comments, touching, hugging, and kissing from Smith, who also told her life would be “so much easier” for him if she weren’t 17. Things came to a head in May 2019 when he allegedly put his hands down her pants, after which she went home and the aforementioned text message exchange took place, where he incriminated himself by asking if she was okay, and telling her he’d knock it off (he apparently did not knock it off, as the victim claims she was harassed even more after she turned 18).

Smith groomed his students, as the victim stated to crisis workers at the Upper Valley Child Advocacy Center that he was known to push the limits of appropriate conduct in the classroom, making lewd comments and jokes with his students, and regularly crossing boundaries with unwanted touching. Things really took a turn when he got the victim alone, however.

The assault took place at Bonneville Technical Careers High School in Idaho Falls. The school has a low college readiness rate, which is to be expected as it is designed to prepare students to enter trade fields. A large percentage (80%) of the student population is male, and there is a low teacher-to-student ratio.

Prior to teaching at Technical Careers High School, Smith was a former sheriff’s deputy with Bonneville County, serving there from 2007 to 2011. He is currently on paid administrative leave at the school.

While if you’ve read a few of these posts (or just haven’t lived under a rock) it’s easy to see all teachers don’t have children’s best interests at heart, some legitimately try to help their charges – only to be thwarted by school administration.

Patrick Daley, 36, of Lansing, Michigan, was convicted last October of 18 counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct, citing the molestation of many young boys (8 of whom testified at the trial) at Washington Woods Middle School, where he taught fifth grade. He was sentenced to between 7 and 15 years in prison. Since then, parents have alleged, in a lawsuit filed by the family of one of the victims, that the school had prior knowledge of Daley’s crimes for a period of at least three years and did nothing other than essentially asking him to tone it down a little.

Daley, who never admitted to his crimes, even at sentencing when begged to do so by mothers of his victims, was never formally investigated by Holt School District, and he was never reported to police. Teachers, staff members, volunteers and students made at least 8 separate reports to the district about Daley’s actions between the 2016-2017 school year and May 2018 (when Daley was finally investigated by Ingham County Sheriff’s Office), according the lawsuit . At least two administrators had conversations with Daley about how he interacted with young boys, the earliest in 2015. In one such conversation, the district’s human resources director told him his actions were very “dangerous and concerning,” but nothing was done other than warn him to maybe stop doing it.

Coworkers and former students of Daley’s admitted that the teacher was known for touching his students, from high-fives to hugs, and that many either didn’t realize or weren’t aware that his behavior had turned inappropriate. Grazing his hand over a male child’s groin, or letting his hand rest on their buttocks for extended periods of time were apparently regular occurrences for Mr. Daley, who preyed on his students’ trust and familiarity with him.

Washington Woods Middle School, in Delhi Charter Township, Michigan, serves approximately 450 students in grades 5 and 6. It has test scores average with the state, and has no other exceptional information – good or bad – to report regarding its makeup or achievements. In other words, it’s just your average middle school.

Prior to molesting children at Washington Woods, Daley worked at Cole Academy in Lansing, a small elementary charter school with about 200 students in grades K-6. Though more diverse than Washington Woods, it still has nothing to set it apart from hundreds of other schools in the country. Daley was let go from Cole as early as 2013 after he was caught sexually harassing male students and watching them shower while on field trips, according to the lawsuit that was filed against the district. No apparent reports were made to police. Daley just found himself another job, and another opportunity to harm innocent children.

In addition to his job diddling young boys, Daley also worked as a high school hockey coach.

High School Teacher charged with child rape, molestation, pornography

A high school teacher in Washington was arrested and charged last week with two counts of first-degree rape of a child, two counts of first-degree child molestation, and with one count each of first-degree possessing and distributing depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct after police discovered he was making and trading pornographic material featuring a young child. Further investigation determined he was raping a young boy on numerous occasions.

Stuart MacGregor Hoffman, 28, of Bellevue, is being held in King County Correctional Facility in Seattle in lieu of $1 million bail after being charged. Federal charges appear to be forthcoming, presumably because of the international nature of the crime: Hoffman was exchanging pedophilic photos and videos with a man in Britain, who himself had been assaulting a 2-year-old. The apprehension of the British man is what led police to Hoffman.

Email exchanges between the two parties were disgusting, with Hoffman bragging to his colleague that he regularly succeeded in bribing the child with food to allow him to do what he wanted, also lamenting the fact that COVID-19 isolation kept him from continuing the abuse, and why-oh-why hadn’t he begun video taping the abuse when he began 6 years ago, because 5-year-olds are so much better… You get the idea.

Hoffman, a Career and Technical Education teacher at Newport High School, was put on administrative leave (mostly likely with his $77,000/year salary intact) pending the results of the investigation. He has since been removed from the school’s website.

Another “pillar of the community” has been exposed as being nothing more than a pedophilic dirtbag. And, hey: he served the education community for nearly 40 years! But that could never happen in your neck of the woods, right?

Frank Richard Beyer, 75, known to most as Rick Beyer, named National Role Model by Minority Access in 2018 and a longstanding campaigner of LGBTQ+ rights – and, oh yeah, former elementary school principal – was sentenced on Monday to 97 months in prison in a Fort Lauderdale court after pleading guilty in March to possessing child pornography that included images of boys under age 12 engaged in sex acts and exposing their genitals.

Beyer was uploading vast quantities of videos and images of man-on-boy and boy-on-boy sex acts via Dropbox and using a Gmail account, which alerted authorities.

In April 2019, Google noticed a subscriber uploaded a picture of “a nude prepubescent child laying inside a tanning bed with an erect penis” to the account linked to rickbefll@gmail.com. Dropbox already had sent two Cybertip reports that rickbefll@gmail.com had uploaded 20 files of child pornography, including a video of two boys performing oral sex on each other. Beyer was also making use of Mega.nz, which is apparently a cloud storage site that pedophiles love to store their sick garbage on because it’s outside of the United States and fully encrypted.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for Beyer in November 2019 and a perusal of his home led to more images and videos, because what else was he supposed to do retired for 17 years in Florida: fish? Since then, investigations have yielded over 1,200 videos and 4,000 pictures depicting child pornography. It was also found that he communicated with another person via an encrypted chat program and shared some of his “wealth” with that individual.

Beyer graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1966 and worked for Syracuse School District in Syracuse, NY from 1967 to his retirement in 2002, when he moved to Florida. During that time he worked in district offices, as a sixth grade teacher, and as an elementary school principal. Investigators are now asking for more information about Beyer’s teaching career (and potential victims during that time).

Two schools where Beyer is said to have worked include Seymour Elementary School (where he was principal) and Lincoln Middle School, both of which have high minority populations and a large percentage (90% or more) of students from low-income families.
